About Cambodia

About Cambodia

Located in Southeast Asia, Cambodia is bordered by the Gulf of Thailand and the countries of Vietnam, Laos and Thailand. With 443 km of coastline, it’s known for its beautiful beaches as well as its tropical climate. Although it has had more than its share of turbulent history in the past, it has been fairly stable in recent years. The government is a multiparty democracy with a constitutional monarchy. Cambodia is experiencing strong economic growth, with tourism and the garment industry leading the trend. The country is particularly famous for the Angkor Wat archaeological site.

Studying Business in Cambodia

As a whole, this is a country that tends to be quite business minded, so there are a number of places where you can study business in Cambodia. Although some programs are taught in the Khmer language, there are several that are in English and offer bachelor’s and/or master’s degrees. In some cases, they have partnerships with business schools that are based overseas, allowing you to sit for their examinations as well. This may be of interest to you if you are not sure where you wish to end up working.

Some institutions offer a course of study on a semester schedule, while other programs are broken down into modules. The typical school year is from August to May, although some institutions will continue their courses year round.

The length of time to complete your degree in Cambodia will depend on the level of the program you attend, such as four years for a bachelor’s degree and two for an MBA. Some universities offer online courses which will generally allow you more flexibility.

There is a lot of a variation as to the cost of an education in Cambodia. Some universities offer a significant discount for Cambodians; others do not. Per semester cost can range from $650 US for foreigners up to $4500 US and more. This does not cover costs of books, supplies, lodging or meals. Also not included are examination fees for end of year at your school or at their affiliated university overseas, if any.

Depending on the institution and program you choose, you may be able to save money by studying in Cambodia over doing so in your home country. As this is a nation that is experiencing such positive economic growth, you will also gain invaluable experience in an emerging business environment, as well as making contacts there. If you have an interest in international business, particularly in Southeast Asia, studying in the region is an important way to learn about the cultural differences that are inherent to doing business in that part of the world.
